I definitely don’t feel as energized or alert if I skip breakfast or exercise. They are essential!

Quickly describe your morning routine.

My morning routine consists of food, exercise, and getting my kids off to school.

How often do you change your morning routine?

Since a large part of my routine involves my kids, it changes based on their school schedule. So, I really have two routines. One for when they are in school and another for when they are out of school (summer break, Christmas break, Spring break, etc).

Do you use an alarm or a specific app to help you wake up?

I use the built in alarm app on my Galaxy Nexus 6P. If my daughter hasn’t swiped it from my nightstand, I use an old iPod Touch that plays Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” as a backup alarm. Those waves crashing in the beginning is nice!

Do you eat breakfast in the morning, if so, what do you typically have?

I always eat breakfast in the morning.
It’s usually a simple protein like bacon or eggs and a simple source of fiber like almonds.
I also drink a lot of water.

What is the first drink you have in the morning, and at what time?

The first drink I have in the morning is water,
and I drink it shortly after I wake up at 6:00 AM.

Do you exercise in the morning and/or meditate in the morning?

I exercise four times a week. I do a mix of cardio (usually biking or running) and weight training (usually machines at the gym).

How soon after waking up do you check your phone? [Check/send emails, social media]

I check my phone almost immediately after I wake up.
I’m a news junkie so I catch up on world events while I’m starting my routine.

What are the most important tasks you complete in the morning?

The most important tasks I complete in the morning are
eating breakfast, exercising, and getting my kids to school before the tardy bell rings.

What is your bedtime routine?

My wife and I usually lay in bed together catching up on the day
and planning our next moves before we drift off to sleep.

Are you able to keep the same routine when you’re traveling or in a different environment?

If I’m traveling, I normally don’t have kid drop-off duty so I don’t do that part of my routine. I do, however, always eat breakfast and exercise even if I’m traveling or in a different environment.

Do you stick to your routine on the weekends or do you tweak it?

I don’t have to do kid drop-off duty on the weekends so I can sleep in an extra hour or two.
I usually wake up at about 8:30 AM on weekends as opposed to my 6:00 AM
wake-up time on weekdays.

Do you see a change in your day if you forget/don’t to follow your morning routine?

I definitely don’t feel as energized or alert if I skip breakfast or exercise.
They are essential!
